Finding a good latte can be quite overwhelming in Tokyo. Especially when there are so many cafes to choose from. So let us simply your search for your caffeine fix by recommending you the 5 best latte places in Omotesando & Harajuku (or as we call it, the "Omohara") area.
As espresso coffee lovers, we have visited almost every cafe in the Omotesando and Harajuku area in search for the best cup of steamed milk and coffee goodness. And boy, have we found some gems for you.
5 places to go for the best tasting (and looking) lattes in Omohara:
1) The Roastery by Nozy Coffee
Address: 〒150-0001 Tokyo, Shibuya, Jingumae, 5−17−13
Tel: +81 3-6450-5755
Located on the fashionable Cat Street, this speciality coffee enclave serves up one of the best lattes in Tokyo with a smile. They only serve 2 types of speciality beans per month, usually a fruity tasting bean and a nutty/chocolate-ly tasting one. You can have your coffee served in 4 forms of coffee drinks: espresso, Americano, latte and drip coffee.
We would recommend you to try the latte of course but if you are sensitive to caffeine and get shaky hands, ask for a single shot.
2) Streamer Coffee Company (Shibuya)
Address: 1 Chome-20-28 Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0002
Tel: +81 3-6427-3705
Hours: 8AM - 6PM
Just round the block near the Roastery and Trunk hotel, you can find the Streamer Coffee Company. This trendy cafe chain has popped up all across Tokyo in recent years, helmed by its owner and 2008 Freepour Latte Art Champion, Hiroshi Sawada.
We often order their signature military latte when we visit this cafe. It's a fusion latte between espresso and green tea. They also have their seasonal drinks if you are adventurous enough to try but usually those drinks are a hit or miss.
The cafe is also famous for its large latte mugs decorated by some of the best latte art we have ever seen. Their baristas all look fashionable and hipster perfect, and you can't help but imagine if they came to work on a skateboard or parkour! This cafe has definitely carved a name for itself in the trendy Tokyo coffee landscape.
Address: 3 Chome-5-2 Jingūmae, Shibuya-ku, Tōkyō-to 150ー0001
Tel: +81 3-3478-6276
This latte heaven is the only cafe in Tokyo with an all female barista crew. Their crew is super friendly and their picture perfect latte art. We especially adore the latte art done by barista Zen.
Their signature drink is the "lattest", basically a shot of espresso in a large shot glass of milk. Pretty refreshing on a hot day but we always go for the latte because they serve them in big cups!
Interestingly, Lattest also has a celebrity barista @shidamizuki. Fans come from all over Japan to see her! So you might catch a glimpse of a local celebrity on your next visit!
4) Mojo Harajuku (Closed Permanently)
Address: 3 Chome-22-15 Jingumae, Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0001
Tel: +81 3-6265-3286
Hours: 8Am - 8PM (Mon-Fri) 9AM-9PM (Sat-Sun)
Wifi: Not Available
Mojo is a coffee chain from New Zealand but according to Kiwis, it is better than Starbucks. Their Harajuku branch is hidden in a corner off the crazy streets of Harajuku. It could be a little hard to find but that's why it usually does not get overly packed like the other Harajuku cafes.
The coffee is pretty good and it is one of the few places in Tokyo you can get a flat white done the right way. There is a bakery next door so you could grab some pastry and have a coffee. This place is perfect for breakfast or a quick coffee break.
5) Deus Ex Machina
Address: 3 Chome-29-5 Jingumae, Shibuya, Tokyo 150-0001
Tel: +81 3-5413-3949
Hours: 9AM-8PM (Everyday except Friday (closes at 11PM on Fri)
