My ideal afternoon is to spend a day in a café, drinking coffee and read a book. Well, that's basically what you can do at the Book Lab Tokyo in Shibuya's famous (or infamous) Dogenzaka.
The interior design of the cafe exudes a minimalist yet warm and inviting atmosphere that you cannot help but step into the cafe wanting to be there.
Perhaps, this cafe is a bookworm's dream come true because you can eat, drink and probably talk a little louder without the odd librarian shooshing you.
How awesome is that?
Being in here feels like being in a stylish library where the smart and cool kids hangout. It also makes you feel sophisticated just by sitting down and pretending to read something.
However, most of the books and magazines are in Japanese, if you don't understand the language, just bring your rubrix cube, paperback or laptop (there's free Wifi).
Being the bookworm that I am, I sat down to read a children's picture book and have a latte.
Ok, the book wasn't that interesting but it looks good in the photos.
To my surprise, the latte was very smooth. The barista got the balance between the milk foam and coffee just right so it didn't taste too milky or too bitter. In other words, a good latte :) Seriously, I could come here everyday just for the latte.
All in all, this cafe is a pretty good find. We stumbled upon it after seeing a huge sign advertising its location on the side of a building.
I will definitely return again to chill, pretend to read a book or just work on my laptop. And of course, to have a good cup of latte.
